Why Sensory?

I fundamentally believe that all children need to access sensory explorations. With the many years of experience I have working in Mainstream and Special schools, I have witnessed first-hand the huge benefits that children achieve from sensory experiences.

Many parents have heard of "sensory" but may not be sure or confident of what it entails. I am always happy to share my knowledge and the benefits with you.

Sensory play is play that stimulates all of a child's senses. Generally most sensory play focuses on touch, sight and hearing as that is the most accessible but we endeavour to give you ideas and resources to have sensory play experiences with all 5 senses involved.

Sensory play stimulates brain synapses and functions. The more sensory activities that a child experiences the more neural pathways get utilised and develop, helping children complete more complex learning tasks.

Sensory play has been shown to benefit all children whatever their ability as it supports language development, cognitive growth, problem solving skills, fine and gross motor skills and of course social development through interactions between adult and child.
